Daniel is a Junior studying Public Policy and Economics with a certificate in Energy & the Environment. He is currently researching and developing a plan to incentivize Duke employees to adopt distributed solar generation systems. Daniel’s other interests include carbon markets, new utility business models, and international security as it relates to energy.
Nathan Hsieh, Co-President
Nathan is currently studying Mathematics and Religion with a heavy dose of Energy and the Environment on the side. He is also extremely passionate about Soccer, Jazz music, travelling on a low budget, and Sustainability.
Jason Chen, Co-President
Jason is a Junior from Beijing, China. He has been actively involved since the founding of this club. His interests span across oil & gas, electricity sector, corporate sustainability and global energy finance. He is a member of the Duke Energy Initiative Student Advisory Committee and a member of the Duke Kunshan University Student Advisory Council. Jason also loves to fly fish and breakdance.
Silvia Vieira, Internal VP
Silvia is a half-Brazilian, half-Italian Senior in Environmental Sciences and Visual Arts. Her passions include documentary photography, exploring new places, and sustainable business solutions.
Collin Allen, External VP
Collin is a Junior in Environmental Science pursuing a certificate in Energy and the Environment and a Global Health Minor. Outside of the Energy Club, Collin is involved in Club Lacrosse, Ducks Unlimited and Greek Life at Duke University. Collin plans to attend engineering school after his time at Duke and hopes to pursue a career in renewable energy one day.
Lucy Chen, Marketing/Social Media VP
Lucy is a Senior majoring in Public Policy with a concentration in Environmental Policy and a minor in French. Her primary academic interests include renewable energy, sustainable design and development, and international relations. Outside of school, Lucy is passionate about fine arts, photography, and marketing.
Michael Baker, Project Manager
Michael is a Senior studying Mathematics and History at Duke University. He grew up abroad, most recently in Singapore. Michael is interested in all things distributed energy, both in the US and internationally. Among his outside interests are reading, a variety of outdoor sports, boxing, and cooking.
PROJECTS AND ENGINEERING TEAM
Dylan is currently a Senior majoring in Computer Science. Although he is from the Caribbean, he despises long walks on the beach and instead prefers to sit down on them. He has recently started playing chess, but will only play as black so that he may pretend to command legions of terror. Dylan’s more formal interests include software development and data analysis.
Tyler is a freshman from Baltimore, MD studying Energy and the Environment. Growing up with a love for the outdoors, Tyler became interested in environmental issues close to home as well as global issues during his childhood and teenage years. Tyler wishes to spend his time at Duke learning about the relationships between climate change, energy, and water usage, and he hopes to work on innovative solutions for a growing list of issues in these three interconnected arenas. In addition to his studies, Tyler is also a member of the Club Lacrosse Team, Outing Club, as well as a startup team working to create a unique platform for information sharing and discussion online.
Sam is a freshman from Springfield, Ohio who has a great interest in renewable energy as well as the energy sector as a whole. Sam looks forward to exploring both during his time here at Duke. Outside of the Energy Club, Sam plays both intramural soccer and flag football, and he enjoy spending time outdoors.
